Heroes in our Family history [we have been able to trace] were KIA and buried in foreign lands or are listed on memorials in lands far from home. Up to the end of ww2. There are also those not listed here who served and returned to their homelands after their service during wars — they also gave their ALL but were considered lucky they did not die on the battlefields but returned home to loved ones. We sometimes forget that they also still suffered the traumas of the wars, and for that alone they deserve to be remembered for the service they gave to their country.
Text Box: We commemorate the 1,700,000 men and women of the Commonwealth forces who died in the two world wars. The CWGC cemeteries, burial plots and memorials are a lasting tribute to those who died in some 153 countries across the world. CWGC Register records details of Commonwealth war dead so that graves or names on memorials can be located. Above photos are of the original burials on the battlefields prior to formal burials in the designated war cemeteries after the end of the wars.

Text Box: Australian Officer visits a comrade’s grave at Lancashire Landing Cemetery, Helles, Gallipoli 1915
Text Box: John * was very pleased and honoured to be asked to be the one to plant the Gallipoli “Lone Pine” seedling into the earth at the Dawesville War Memorial on 22 April 2015, ready for Anzac Day Dawn Service in 2015.
2 Plaques, one each side of the planted area mark the information on the landings and the VC’s names etc and in the background is the Estuary and the Dawesville War Memorial with the flag poles.
The Anzac Day service here at Dawesville attracts a very large crowd for their Dawn Service and it is moving to see the sunrise as it comes up over the memorial and the estuary during the service which commences at 0600 hours.
This year there will also be a Flame of Remembrance from Gallipoli to mark the 100th year. ‘Lest we Forget’
